Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV)
The Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
Husbands and wives must start each day seeking God. Each day brings about its own struggles. We do not know what evil things will be thrown at us. We do not know what difficulties will arise in our life. We each have things that we struggle with internally. Without God guiding us through our entire day, we can have a difficult time getting through any of our trials.
A common mistake we can make is to not be prepared for the troubles and temptations of life. As a wife, I find it difficult to discern when I will have trouble with unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, sadness, or many other emotions in my life. I just don’t know what the day will bring and sometimes emotions can take over my heart. For husbands, it is impossible to win against lust and sin without God’s guidance. For our marriage to be restored and to work through the hurt and anger, we must seek God early in each day.
In my marriage, the armor of God has a lot of meaning. My husband spends time praying each morning before leaving the house to put on the armor of God. For him, specifically, this means that he asks God for protection from lust and sinful habits. Not only that, but he asks God for guidance when temptations arise. For me, I need to spend time in the morning asking God for protection over the bitterness and anger that Satan throws at me throughout the day. I put the armor of God on to help me hear the truth.
There are really so many ways that the armor of God can be applied to your life and your marriage. I ask you to read it very closely and listen to how God is speaking to you. Each verse has so many insights on how we can prepare ourselves for each day. After you read it carefully, please write down the ways that God is showing you what protection you need. Each marriage will find more essential parts that apply to their lives.
We thank You for our marriage. We thank You that You will restore us. We know that we need protection each day. We need protection from the temptations and emotions that assault us. We don’t know what the day will bring. But, You God know everything. You are more powerful than anything. That is why we ask you to help us put on the armor of God each morning. Please show us, in Your Word, what our marriage needs. Please show us the perfect time and place each morning to pray for your protection. God, please guide us through the whole day, bringing us back together at night. Guide us to follow You in our lives and our marriage. We ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
How is your marriage going? Are you seeking God throughout the day? Are you reading God’s Word and praying together each night? Feel free to share below how you are doing. Add any specific prayer requests that you may have. And know always that I am praying for each one of you.
